Movie Review: Four Sisters Before The Wedding

It’s the year 2003. While CJ (Clarence Delgado) is in Singapore for a science seminar, his sisters Teddie (Charlie Dizon), Bobbie (Alexa Ilacad), Alex (Gillian Vicencio) and Gabbie (Belle Mariano) discover that their dad, Caloy (Dominic Ochoa), might be cheating on their mom, Grace (Carmina Villaroel). To find out the truth and save their parents' marriage, they hire a private investigator and plan to make a surprise wedding anniversary party. Both cost money which they don’t have.

In trying to find money, Teddie offers tutoring services and reconnects with Jeremy (Jameson Blake), the guy she ghosted in high school. Gabbie enlists the help of her best friend JP (Jeremiah Lisbo), who may or may not be romantically her. Meanwhile, Alex keeps working on music videos for free to get closer to her rocker crush, Chad (Joao Constancia). Bobbie, in the meantime, contemplates whether she will join a prestigious student exchange program in New York that their family definitely cannot afford.

As the sisters try to keep their parents together and shield their brother from the painful truth, they find their bonds being tried and tested, exposing their secret fears and insecurities that may damage their sisterhood beyond repair.

Four Sisters Before The Wedding is definitely an entertaining heartwarming movie for the family. The four lead actress Belle Mariano, Alexa Ilacad, Charlie Dizon and Gillian Vicencio are convincing that they are the young characters of the first film. They are right fit for the role not only replicating the previous characters but also showing the vulnerability of being young. Charlie as Teddy shines as the funny and cheerful in the family, Alexa as Bobbie shines as the sophisticated and reserved woman, Gillian as Alex shines as the black sheep with a heart for the family and Belle as Gabby efficiently shows us the heartbreak of first love. Her team up with Jeremiah works in this film showing the young love. Truly the four are the next generation of actress to watch out for and this film is a good vehicle to show their acting chops. The supporting cast are also worth noting from Gigi De Lana, Cai Cortez and Cacai Bautista that definitely make you laugh. Ms. Irma Adlawan is remarkable here while Carmina Villaroel and Dominic Ochoa are the mother and father that you will wish to have. The theme song of the film Maligaya ang Buhay sung by Inigo Pascual is a good combination to the positive vibes of the film. There are so many things to watch out for this film and roller coaster of emotion to feel from laugh out loud, kilig to touching and overflowing tears. It tackles valid family issues and sister rivalries that everyone can relate to. Four Sisters Before The Wedding uplifts the value of family, that no matter what happens, family always comes first and constant communication is vital to achieve a successful family life. Four Sisters Before The Wedding is a solid prequel to Four Sisters And The Wedding that matches the energy and impact of the first film but also stand alone to tell the beauty of its story.
