Imagine two young, hot girls on a road trip meeting a handsome and mysterious guy who gamely tags along with them. What could happen next? In the trailer of “Sweet Release”, you can catch Ataska uttering a short, but powerful line that answers that question – “Endless possibilities.”
Ataska plays Rian who doesn’t take life very seriously. “She’s fun-loving and optimistic, the sunshine friend” Ataska elaborates about her character. But that’s not to say that she can’t be broken-hearted. In fact, the reason she and her best friend are on a road trip is to try and move on after her boyfriend leaves to find his true self.
Dyessa Garcia plays Xan, Rian’s best friend. Dyessa describes her character as “independent and family oriented. She always works to support her loved ones. She is caring, but has more masculine than feminine personality.” Xan is also burdened with the realization that she has fallen out of love with her childhood sweetheart.
Mhack Morales plays Lucas, the quirky guy who is keeping a secret. He hopes to achieve some of the things on his bucket list while in the company of Rian and Xan.
“Sweet Release” follows our adventurous trio throughout the countryside. Somewhere along the way, their dynamics shift in a way that urges them to explore their sexual desires and assess their personal aspirations. What starts out as a trip to destress then becomes a journey of self-discovery.
Director Pancho Maniquis describes “Sweet Release” as “sort of a spiritual successor to Sex Drive,” one of the most erotic movies of 2003, starring Maui Taylor, Katya Santos, and Wendell Ramos. Asked what he wants the audience to take with them after watching this movie, he replies, “While I know everyone is keeping an eye out for the sexy scenes, they can also look forward to a heartwarming exploration of
friendship, love, as well as the journey towards understanding oneself amidst life's uncertainties. Overall, I just want everyone to see that, though life might be one hell of a bumpy ride sometimes, it’s still one amazing journey when we’re with the right people.”
Speaking of being with “the right people”, all three lead stars agree that doing this film has been their best movie experience so far. Ataska remarks, “Good vibes all around. Our team felt like a family. It's like the universe brought us all together to create something beautiful.”
Dyessa adds, “’Yong samahan namin nina Ataska, Mhack and nila Direk, hindi siya basta work lang para sa akin kasi totoo yung bond. Mas lalo kong minamahal yung pag arte dahil dito. Mas nagkaroon ako ng tiwala sa sarili ko na makakaya ko lahat ng trabahong ibibigay sa akin.””
Mhack echoes his co-stars’ feelings, saying, “sobrang cool at ang babait ng production lalo na sina Direk Pancho. Naging mabilis ang mga sequence at naging close ko ang lahat kaya isa itong pinaka-best at pinakamasaya kong experience.”
Because of this film, Ataska also experienced her own self-discovery. She shares, “People would always ask me, what do I love more, singing or acting? I would end up saying "why not both?". But now I'm certain, I was born to be an actress. Don't get me wrong, I will continue to sing and write, but now I know, my biggest dream is to become a successful actress.”
