Prepare
for an early spooky treat as Regal Entertainment brings its first
cinema offering this 2024 via horror comedy film "Bantay-Bahay," opening
nationwide on May 1. Led by the incomparable Pepe Herrera a.k.a.
"Lods," this spine-chilling feature promises to be a thrilling ride from
start to finish.
Herrera,
known for his versatility in both drama and comedy, previously wowed
audiences in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) box-office hit and
record-breaker romantic film "Rewind," where he played
"Lods" (Lord), alongside Kapuso Primetime King and Queen Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.
This
time around, "Lods" takes audiences on a hair-raising adventure as
Caleb, breathing life to what appears to be his most viral role yet (and
also for his character).
"An
over-enthusiastic vlogger and podcaster Caleb unwittingly complies with
the request of his girlfriend to play house-sitter for her
grandmother's provincial residence. Unknown to Caleb, the house is not
only isolated but embedded with a dark history which was well-guarded as
a secret."
Written
and helmed by renowned filmmaker Jose Javier "Joey" Reyes, whose last
theatrical collaboration with Regal Entertainment was the 2021 hit
"Mommy Issues," starring Pokwang and Sue Ramirez,
"Bantay-Bahay"
poses to be a one-of-a-kind treat for the whole family. Reyes' mastery
lies in his ability to seamlessly blend humor with clever dialogue and
relatable characters navigating suspenseful plots, ensuring viewers
remain enthralled through and through. With a proven track record of
delivering quality works, Reyes' recent appointment as Chairperson and
CEO of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) further
underscores his dedication and love for the craft of filmmaking.
Joining
Pepe Herrera in the cast are Casie Banks, Johannes Rissler, Melizza
Jimenez, Karl Gabriel, and Rolando Inocencio, rounding out a talented
ensemble that brings the chilling tale of "Bantay-Bahay" to life.
On
another hand, Direk Joey provided intriguing insights into the creation
of "Bantay-Bahay," shedding light on the inspiration behind this
chilling horror comedy. He shared that the story was pitched for Regal
by Sketch Sabangan, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the
film's inception.
Reyes
also lauded Herrera's performance, affirming its perfect fit for the
role. When asked about any peculiar incidents on set, Reyes brushed
aside the notion, noting the absence of any alarming occurrences, but
hinted on the must-catch thrilling moments awaiting viewers within the
film itself.
Furthermore, he underscored that "Bantay-Bahay" is ideal for families thanks to its broad appeal across audiences.
