Movie Review: Blue Room

Rebel Rebel, an indie rock band composed of woke albeit sheltered teens, gets its biggest break at a prestigious local music festival. But after their celebratory night at the local bar, they are arrested for drug possession. Instead of the standard procedures, they were hauled to the Blue Room, a VIP detention area where they can bribe their way out through rogue cops. The band members have to decide whether to use their privilege to go on with their lives or to own up to what they had been preaching.

Blue Room shines with its cool young vibes that gears towards its relevant social commentary to tell. The ensemble cast of the leads from Elijah Canlas, Juan Karlos Labajo up to Harvey Bautista Nourijune and Keoni Jinare are delightful to watch. They fairly did well with their role as a representation of what youth are now and their struggles in life with their social status. The cinematography of the film is outstanding from its one long take shot, close up and up to split screen and use of social media to effectively weave and tell its story. It effectively uses the  technical aspect of the film from sound, editing, music, production design and cinematography to clearly show the narrative of the story. You will feel the suspense, the thrill and anger in the film as it continues to unfold its story. The combination of music and arc of the story with its good screenplay is recommended. I can say that Blue Room  is now one of the important coming of age and recommended youth oriented films to watch. A must  see in Cinemalaya 2022.

My Verdict: 4.5/5
