Movie Review: Miracle in Cell No.7

Aga Muhlach plays a mentally-ill man who is wrongfully charged with sexually assaulting and murdering a little girl who happens to be the daughter of a high-ranking official (Tirso Cruz III).   Joselito, the character played by Aga, has a very loving daughter named Yesha (Xia Vigor) who is left with nobody now that he is in prison.

In all his innocence, Joselito wishes to be with Yesha even in prison.  With his fellow inmates already softening up on him, they device a plan to smuggle his young daughter inside the cell.  Their success in pulling it off, the bond that is formed between Joselito and the men, the affection they have for the little girl, and how she brings out the best in them – all these put together may be the miracle in cell no. 7.

Their strong connection lives on even years later when Yesha, already a lawyer (Bela Padilla), is determined to clear his father’s name.

Prepare some tissues as this film will surely melt your heart out loud. Miracle in Cell No. 7 successfully portrays a father-daughter relationship in the most heartfelt way. Love it so much. One of the best and heartwarming Pinoy film that I’ve seen in recent years with great acting ensemble from Aga Muhlach, Xia Vigor, Bela Padilla, JC Santos up to Joel Torre, John Arcilla, Soliman Cruz, Mon Confiado and Jojit Lorenzo. Aga Muhlach fully embrace his character well giving an honest and affecting performance of mentally challenged loving father. Xia on the other hand is such an adorable smart kid with a pure heart and touching intentions all through out the film. The inmates friends of Aga in the film brings laughter that is just felt natural and not forced. They also add colors and layers on this film that help to deliver the message on finding the beauty and goodwill in each of our lives. John Arcilla had its own shining moments that you will hate him and love him on this film at the same time. Bela Padilla just had a swift role yet her performance will truly leave a mark. It's nice to have this kind of family drama to watch this Christmas with just a good intention to tell a story on love for family and seeing the light in times of darkness. Miracle in Cell No.7 is worth seeing for the story itself with ensemble cast  that will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

My Verdict:  3.5/5
