Himaya (a Visayan/Cebuano word which means “PRAISE” or “PAPURI) is a band founded by "Rocker-Preacher”, Alvin Barcelona. Alvin Barcelona has been a long-time singer-songwriter-musician, concert and recording artist since his days with the legendary Freddie Aguilar. He has been an Awit Award Nominee for Best Regional Song, a PMPC Star Awards nominee for Best Original Movie Theme Song, a National Awardee for Arts and Culture by SSEAYP under the National Youth Commission of the Office of the President, a vocalist-multi instrumentalist that had recording sessions with the likes of Ogie Alcasid to Maegan Aguilar, to concerts with music icons such as Freddie Aguilar, Kuh Ledesma, Rey Valera, Joey Ayala, Bayang Barrios, Top Suzara, Geneva Cruz, and opening acts for Ai-Ai de las Alas, Alden Richards, Coco Martin, and more, performing around the globe, and nationwide from renowned music venues such as Hard Rock Café, Bistro 70s, Teatrino, Music Museum to huge events in Araneta Coliseum, MOA Arena, SMX, PICC, etc. He has been doing this for about 2 decades now, with his band HIMAYA, even as a preacher under Bro. Bo Sanchez who labeled him as probably the “only (Catholic) long-haired Rocker-Preacher” in the country.
The HIMAYA Band is a pool of talented musicians that continues to evolve from a “Praise and Worship” band to a secular pop-rock band. Probably one of the most enduring and active bands for close to two decades now, Alvin brings along the band for performances around the country, not limited to church gatherings, but mostly to schools, companies, and secular events with audiences numbering to thousands of people from different ages and walks of life. Recently JUAN Movement got the services of Alvin and The Himaya Band for performances nationwide.

The HIMAYA Band is re-launching and repackaging itself (with its music and image, in social media and in live performances), highlighted with the band’s upcoming newest single, “PAYAKAP”. The band is receiving encouraging breakthroughs since its re-launch. Recently, MADHOUSE MUSIC, founded by another OPM/OFM icon, RANNIE RAYMUNDO, took in HIMAYA under its wings. HIMAYA just had an unprecedented 2-hour live performance radio-streaming that continues to add viewers and listeners up to now.
HIMAYA’s “PAYAKAP” is due to be officially released, along with its music video, this May 5, 2019 simultaneously on Spotify, FB, Youtube, and other social media platforms. Like most original songs written by Alvin and arranged by HIMAYA, the song has an inspirational tone but can easily be related to as a “love song” between young lovers, friends, parent to a child, or yes, even between you and your God. Himaya Band would like to have a mark on music industry to introduced new, fresh, and Original Filipino Music that will not only entertain but also inspire, move, and even bless the world which, at present, could surely use HIMAYA’s brand of music.
