Movie Review: Elise

The story depicts events in the life of a young named Bert (played by Enchong Dee), who is quick-witted, sickly emotional and independent guy who falls for Elise (played by Janine), who, on the other hand, is a strong, tough, independent woman.

Early on since childhood, Bert developed feelings for Elise. But puppy love is not yet something that should be taken seriously. Later on, they get separated to pursue education and chase their dreams.

Years later, their paths cross and old feelings get rekindled. But their situation is different now; they are not young kids anymore and love is not a children’s game. New struggles arise when their current situations do not work in their favor.

Elise aims to separate itself from other love stories using its humor and the chemistry of of Enchong Dee and Janine Gutierez, both of which are good. I love how the love story told that was creatively done and the treatment that they did to make it more engaging to the audience. I love the pop culture references that was placed in subtle to emphasize the timeline of the film. Enchong Dee truly owns the film as he effectively convey the emotion required for the main character. Janine Gutierrez on the other hand, reciprocate and shows her versatility as an actress in this film. Victor Anastacio was a scene stealer, a natural comedian and perfectly fits on his role. Another noteworthy performance is by the charming new child star to rise Miel Espinoza that will surely make you smile and touch your heart in this film. The restrained comedic style and unique storytelling is something new that this film offers. Kudos to the whole team for bringing this black comedy with romance that everyone can relate to.

My Verdict: 4/5
