The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has assured the public that all movies being released this week are safe and suitable for specific age groups.
The South Korean teen romance, “You Are The Apple Of My Eye,” and the animated films, “The Day The Earth Blew Up” and “Ne Zha 2,” are classified as PG (Parental Guidance).
MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio reminds parents and guardians that under PG, “parental guidance is recommended for viewers aged 13 and below. It might have scenes that need to be discussed with parents to their kids, to properly identify between fiction and reality.”
The Thai comedy-horror, “404,” about a young real estate scammer who finds an abandoned hillside hotel and soon learns that it is haunted by a ghost, is rated R-13 for viewers 13 years of age and above.
The historical bio-drama and thriller-war “Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin,” is also R-13 due to thematic violent content that deals with religion and assassination which may not be suitable for children below 13 years of age.
Three more films were rated R-16, suitable only for those 16 years old and above due to mature themes and language.
They are “Lilim,” a Filipino-produced horror-suspense film about two siblings seeking shelter in a secluded orphanage; “Babygirl,” an American erotic-thriller starring Nicole Kidman, which premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and 2024 Toronto Int’l Film Festival; and “Novocaine,” an American action-adventure about Nathan Caine, who can’t feel pain.
Sotto-Antonio encourages parents and adults to consider the MTRCB ratings as a guide for choosing appropriate movies particularly for young audiences.
“As parents and adults, we play a crucial role in encouraging and promoting responsible viewing habits and shaping our kids into discerning individuals to properly choose appropriate content for themselves,” said Sotto-Antonio.
