Bula is a story of Meldie (Ayanna Misola), a young woman working at a
laundry service shop and living a simple life, married to a disabled man
(Mon Confiado). At first glance, Meldie looks sweet and simple, but
behind her innocent looks lies a manipulative woman who will do anything
to get what she wants. Meldie also has a fetish for trying out her
client’s clothes as an act of foreplay that satisfies her sexual
fantasies.
Meldie develops feelings for one of her clients, the handsome police officer Jacob (Gab Lagman), who is dating another woman, Celine (Rob Guinto). Despite being married and Jacob being in a relationship, Meldie finds a way to be with the hot police guy, no matter how crazy it can be.
Bula is an effective
black comedy and sexy thriller film. It's been a while since we see this
kind
of Filipino film that pushes its craziness and uniqueness to the
highest level. With its interesting premise, you will surely get hooked
on this film from start to finish.
It's very well-directed with scenes placed on point. Bula is my favorite
Ayanna Misola's film as she delivers a good performance and proves that
she can be an actress to watch out for. She was challenged in this film
and was able to pull off justifying her character. The chemistry with
Gab Lagman and Ayanna is overflowing and they look good together on
screen. The supporting cast are also noteworthy from Mon Confiado, Ana
Abad Santos and Rob Guinto. The selection of songs and musical scoring
added a quirkiness of the film that drives the movie more hilariously
and out of the box. Bula is fresh, original, a totally entertaining film and
a great watch.
My Verdict: 4/5
