Movie Review: Gameboys The Movie

Based on the first Boys' Love series in the Philippines, Gameboys The Movie follows the story of gamers turned lovers Cairo and Gavreel as they get to spend time together in Gavreel's house, a few weeks before Cairo returns to his province. What starts out as a romantic holiday for the young couple turns into a relationship test that they have to overcome. Cairo is faced with the reality of his imminent departure while Gavreel is compelled to make a life-changing decision. After defying distance and even the pandemic, will Cairo and Gavreel be able to prove once again that their love for each other is strong enough to withstand fate and circumstance?

Gameboys The Movie is championed by the charm and kilig of Kokoy De Santos and Elijah Canlas. From the first Boys' Love series that soars high and capture the hearts of its viewers, the film continues to showcase its beautiful story and overflowing chemistry of EliKoy. It tackles valid LGBT issues and creatively tell the stories of the current generation. The tandem of Kyle Velino and Miggy Jimenez is promising and their story arc is something to look forward to once the second season released. Its fun to watch the ever endearing Pearl played by Adrianna So that always bring light and cheer up the mood. Kych Minemoto as Achilles play it well as an out and loud gay. Kokoy showcase his internal and heartfelt performance of his character as GavReel while Elijah as Cairo is a good support and portrays well as a good boyfriend that you would like to have. Overall, Gameboys The Movie is a story of love and acceptance and elevates from a BL genre to a good alternative and relevant youth oriented movie.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
