Movie Review: Tililing

Three intern nurses get locked down in an asylum where they meet three special patients. Together, they attempt to escape before the other patients kill them.

Kudos for the concept, story and creativity of this film. This is another out of the box, genre bending, controversial film from Darryl Yap. Its good that once in a while we have this new breed of director that is breaking the barrier of the usual Filipino flick that we are seeing. The film give us a closer look of the current situation of our mental institution and mental health awareness. It is done creatively that the film is not preaching. It is entertaining, yet it has an inner message to tell. Somehow you will got affected by the story of the three leads (Baron, Gina and Chad) that have mental illness and understand the journey that they have to gone through. Baron Geisler and Ms. Gina Pareño equally delivers good performance for this film showcasing a different kind of depth and acting intensity for Tililing. Chad Kinis show us his different side in this film, away from his usual comedy antics and he succeeds. The three nurses are great to watch starting of with Candy Pangilinan that is truly a legend and master her craft in comedy but also gave a sensible performance in this film. Donnalyn and Yumi are both revelation in Tililing giving us a brave and touching performance. Cai Cortez is noteworthy that shines on her character as a subtle villain of the film. I love the theme song of the film that generally capture the heart and essence of the film. Tililing is a relevant film that appeals to care for everybody and definitely a love letter not only for mental patients but for everyone who needs love.
