Movie Review: Hello Stranger The Movie

Coming from the success of the BL series last year, Hello Stranger, tells the story of class nerd Mico Ramos (JC Alcantara) and basketball jock Xavier de Guzman (Tony Labrusca) were assigned by their teacher Ms. Tina Moran (Meann Espinosa) to be partners in a class project. Throughout their online interaction during the quarantine, their initial resistance to each other soon gave way to friendship and later attraction.

Now, the movie picked up a few months after the series left off. This time, the students were all at at a beach resort attending "Paniticamp," a required writing camp at a beach resort. Mico came with his gang, Kookai (Vivoree Esclito), Seph (Patrick Quiroz) and Junjun (Miguel Almendras), while Xavier came with his girlfriend Crystal (Gillian Vicencio). As luck would have it, Mico and Xavier become roommates, and the two boys were given a chance to rekindle their lost bond.

Hello Stranger The Movie is a breath of a fresh air as the first ever BL movie to be offered on a Valentine season by a big Filipino movie production. This film gives a lot of fresh discoveries starting from the undeniable chemistry of the leads Tony Labrusca and JC Alcantara. They offer a different level of sensitivity in their character that their emotion successfully transcend to capture the heart of the audience. Tony shine on its quiet moments while JC shines on his crying moments expressing his love for Tony. The supporting cast shine on their own merits from Gillian Vicencio, Vivoree, Patrick Quiroz and Migs Almendras that has their own story to tell about young love and self discovery. I can say that the cast of Hello Stranger The Movie are the new actors and actress to watch out in this generation. Hello Stranger The Movie standout on being brave, sensitive and honest giving us a love story regardless of the gender. It is also a different kind of barkada film in this generation  that succeeds with its optimistic message and generally good writing. It's not everyday that we get something like this, so if you like to watch a sweet and heartwarming Filipino love story, Hello Stranger The Movie is a good catch.
