Kasal: Star Cinema’s opening salvo for its 25th anniversary bring together Derek, Paulo, and Bea

In celebration of its 25th anniversary in the business, ABS-CBN Films – Star Cinema opens with KASAL, a riveting, classic romantic-drama, top billed by three of the industry’s most talented and award-winning artists, Derek Ramsay, Paulo Avelino, and Bea Alonzo.

Directed by Ruel S. Bayani and with a screenplay by Patrick Valencia, Kasal marks the very first major film collaboration of Derek, Paulo, and Bea.

Kasal is centered on Lia Marquez (Alonzo) who is set to marry Cebu's most eligible bachelor and mayoral candidate Philip Cordero (Paulo Avelino). Conflict begins when Lia's ex-boyfriend, Wado dela Costa (Ramsay) works for them in a project that will potentially help Philip win the elections. Wado’s arrival rekindles his romance with Lia, which makes her doubt her feelings for Philip. As the wedding day gets closer, Lia becomes unsure if she is choosing the right man to marry – torn between the man from her past and the man she's building a future with.

It should be noted that Kasal is Bea Alonzo’s grand comeback in movies since she starred in the much talked about romantic drama How To Be Yours shown in mainstream cinemas in 2016. Kasal is also Bea’s first major project since the successful run of the primetime teleserye A Love To Last. As Lia, Bea will be faced with the difficult choice of choosing between two men who are both important to her – one man ensures her a life of power and security while the other could give her an uncomplicated life with the allure and adventure of unpredictability.

As one of ABS-CBN’s finest and most bankable actresses, Bea is able to work with both Derek and Paulo in different projects. Bea first collaborated with Derek in the romantic drama And I Love You So in 2009 and once again in the hit primetime series Magkaribal. In 2014, Bea starred opposite Paulo in the romantic-mystery-suspense-thriller primetime TV series Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon.

The combination of Derek, Paulo, and Bea in the big screen is a beautiful treat because the love triangle of the characters they portray is seamlessly navigated by one of ABS-CBN’s most talented storytellers – director Ruel S. Bayani. Bayani’s film credits include some of Star Cinema’s most unforgettable and complex love stories such as One More Try (2012) and No Other Woman (2011). It should also be noted that this is Bayani’s grand comeback as a film director since he became one of ABS-CBN’s Business Unit Heads for drama.

Together and through the complex world that they have created in Kasal, every moviegoer will see how each character will embrace their choices in love and how they look at their individual truths.

Ultimately, will the truth bind them together will it break them apart? Find out all the answers in Kasal.

Kasal also assembles a powerhouse support cast, which includes industry veterans such as Christopher de Leon, Cherie Gil, Ricky Davao, Ces Quesada and Celeste Lagaspi, with Cris Villonco, Kylie Verzosa, Vin Abrenica, Bobby Andrews, Cai Cortez, and JC Alcantara.

Kasal is showing in cinemas nationwide starting May 16.
