More Family-Friendly Films to Hit Cinemas in the Final Week of May

PREPARE yourself, martial arts fans, because the legendary action star Jackie Chan is back in “Karate Kid: Legends,” which has received a PG (Parental Guidance) rating from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

This sixth installment in the Karate Kid franchise introduces Li Fong, a kung fu prodigy who is forced to leave his home in Beijing and relocate to New York City with his mother.

MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio reminded the public that PG-rated films are appropriate for children under 13 as long as they are accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Three more films have been rated PG:

- “Isang Komedya sa Langit,” a Filipino-produced comedy starring Jaime Fabregas, Edgar Allan Guzman and Gene Padilla. The film follows three priests from 1872, who mysteriously find themselves transported to the year 2024;

- “Nintama Rantaro: Invincible Master of the Dokutake Ninja,” an animated feature that tells the story of a ninja, who becomes a teacher after losing in battle; and,

- “J-Hope Tour Hope on Stage” in Japan “Live Viewing,” is a live broadcast of Korean singer-songwriter J-Hope’s concert, shown in cinemas worldwide.

Meanwhile, due to themes that may not be appropriate for younger audiences, the horror-thriller, “You Shall Not Sleep Tonight,” has been rated R-13, meaning they are restricted to viewers aged 13 and above only.

Sotto-Antonio encourages Filipino families to enjoy these cinematic offerings while promoting responsible viewing.

“While always keeping in mind the importance of age-appropriate content and responsible viewing, we encourage everyone to support all films currently showing in our cinemas and enjoy them together as a family,” said Sotto-Antonio.
