The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has reviewed nearly 200,000 materials from January 2024 to September 2024.
This is part of the agency’s effort to ensure that films, television programs and publicity materials meet the age-appropriate rating and classification standards in a bid to protect audiences from content that may be offensive, especially to younger viewers.
A total of 196,304 TV programs, TV plugs and trailers, optical media materials, movie trailers, publicity materials and films were reviewed by the 31 Board Members in the past nine months.
Some 194,366 materials came from TV programs, plugs and trailers, 412 were local, independent and international films and 403 were movie trailers. The Board also reviewed 1,123 materials for publicity and optical media.
“We have the MTRCB Charter—Presidential Decree (PD) 1986—as the basis of our guidelines. We follow a seven-point framework, and most importantly, we always apply the contemporary cultural Filipino values,” MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto-Antonio said.
In 2022 and 2023, the Board reviewed a total of 230,280 and 255,220 materials, respectively.
Sotto-Antonio is optimistic that the Board will surpass the number of reviewed materials last year as more programs and movies are set to pour in heading into the final quarter of the year.
“We are committed to ensuring that every member of the Filipino family has a safe and comfortable viewing experience. Our top priority is to protect Filipino children from being exposed to any content that may be disturbing to young minds,” Sotto-Antonio said.
