Spellbound is the Filipino adaptation of the top-grossing 2011 South
Korean romantic-comedy film. Yuri, a beautiful lady who has become a
ghost magnet after she survived a vehicular accident back in high
school. The constant presence of the ghosts in Yuri's life stirs fear
among people dear to her. Even her family members detached from her. She
purposely distanced herself from other people. Hence, Yuri is convinced
she is better off alone. Victor, a street magician who easily attracts
people through his charm and good looks. He spotted Yuri among his
audience so he made her his inspiration for his horror-magic show that
becomes an instant hit with the crowd.
Spellbound is a cute
romantic horror comedy film that will definitely entertain you. The
chemistry of Bela Padilla and Marco Gumabao is unexpectedly overflowing.
Bela Padilla gave her funniest and lightest performance in this film. I
did not expect that Bela could deliver in comedy scenes and will make
us
laugh out loud. Marco Gumabao  on the other hand, grew as an actor in
this film and I appreciate him more as he gave a good balance of a
heartthrob and comedy actor for this film. His presence is truly felt
together with Bela Padilla. The two carry the whole film wholeheartedly
and the direction of the film are commendable for giving the right
amount of balance of kilig, romance, drama, comedy and horror. It is
hard to achieve that but the direction and screenplay deliver to give the
audience a complete and defining experience while watching this on a big
screen. Rhen Escaño is very effective as the scary and friendly
ghost, same with Cindy Miranda as the bitch girlfriend. The special
effects are commendable and will definitely give a magical
experience to the audience. So if you would like to experience a roller
coaster of emotion inside the cinema, Spellbound is a film to watch.
My Verdict: 4/5
