Review: Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask

Joseph Marco plays the romantic lead opposite Herlene Budol as Malta.

The first episode of the series introduces us to Herlene Budol’s character, Malta. Malta has not been lucky in love because she sees herself as a “hipon”—or someone blessed with a shapely figure but a plain and homely face, something that the sweet and kind Malta is able to conceal under her facemask.

Malta works to support her mother, Madam Baby, played by Mickey Ferriols, a struggling vlogger and owner of a sari-sari store. A scene later shows that the bills are piling up and Malta decides to help make ends meet for her family. Meanwhile, viewers are introduced to Sieg, Joseph Marco’s character. Sieg is hurting from the end of another relationship, and is nursing a broken heart.

What will happen when Malta and Sieg first meet? How can Malta help support her mother in these difficult times? Can Sieg move past the pain of heartbreak? What’s in store for the duo will be revealed in the upcoming episodes of “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask”.

Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask is a charming and enjoyable romcom series to watch to with natural performance by Harlene Budol and kilig overload hotness by Joseph Marco. I appreciate the charisma of both leads and the humor the script brings in. The supporting cast played by Kiray Celis, VJ Mendoza and Hasna Cabral are a lot of fun as they bring some spice in the series.

Malta’s friends at the café help support her through her troubles.

Kiray plays the antagonistic Trina, Malta’s workmate.

Herlene Budol stars in her first leading role as Malta.

The series might be a pretty familiar tale but Harlene's riot performance and wit brings something new on the table for this series. Her relatable performance will surely capture the audience that is also looking for the love of their life. As the episode 1 just give us a glimpse on what in store for its whole run, there are so many things to watch out on this series, in particular, the story arc in Joseph Marco's previous relationship, and the  hilarious happenings in the coffee shop where Harlene is working. If you are a fan of kilig romcoms series anjd just want to relax at the comfort of your home, you’ll enjoy Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask.  It is enjoyable enough and will likely keep its audience entertained throughout its runtime.

Watch for “Ang Babae Likod ng Face Mask” episodes on the official YouTube Puregold Channel on Saturdays, 7PM, starting June 11.
