A high school fan girl’s obsession with huge celebrity Paulo Avelino – 1⁄2 of the country’s most popular love team – leads her to hide at the back of his pick-up truck and follow him home. She ends up in an unfamiliar house in an unfamiliar place with an unfamiliar Paulo Avelino, the idol she thought she knew from head to foot, heart and soul. They say, never meet your heroes, and she finds out exactly why.
Fan Girl nailed it to be bold, deliver its message on women empowerment and make impact to leave to the audience after watching. The storytelling and screenplay is lit!, on how it has been able to tell a story yet there is another inner story to tell beyond it. I like how the ideas were weave to make a seamless and relevant story. We all know that Paulo Avelino is a good actor and definitely delivers on this film but Charlie Dizon is outstanding in this film. Charlie embodies her character so well and deserves to bag an acting nod come the awards night. Kudos to director Antoinette Jadaone for mounting up this film from her powerful story, clear vision and direction, up to on how he takes care the acting of her leads and bringing this best film of Metro Manila Film Festival 2020. Truly, Fan Girl is the best Filipino film of the year so go watch it!
My Verdict: 5/5
