Movie Review: D' Ninang

In D’Ninang, Ai-Ai portrays a pickpocket with a big heart. While it is apparent that her character is guilty of wrongdoing, Ninang extends help to her community, where she appears to be everybody’s godmother, thus they refer to her as Ninang. She is just like the female version of Robin Hood.

She also takes under her wing a couple of protégées, who are also pickpockets (Angel Guardian, Kiray Celis) but still guided by Ninang’s unconventional way of living.  Her life then takes different twist when she finds here long-lost daughter Mikhai (Kisses Delavin), who decides to live with her.

However, her daughter is unaware of her mom’s illegal business. The irony of it it is that her daughter wants to pursue a career to punish crooks. With their love for each other prevail when the mother and her daughter learn more about each other, including their flaws?

It’s nice to see Aiai Delas Alas in a film that make her more human and not just a laughing stock. She’s been able to deliver as a comedy actress with sincere performance as a loving mother for this film. D’Ninang is not the usual comedy film as it definitely has a heart and been able to deliver its moral lesson without doing an overkill of comedy stint on each of the scenes.  There is also a lot of discoveries for this film starting with Mccoy De Leon that is very comfortable on his role to being the kilig ambassador of this film. This is his best performance for me on his acting career so far and I’m happy that after several acting projects, he improves a lot as an actor. Next discovery is the new promising actress Angel Guardian that delivers good and remarkable for her performance. Given the right project, she will be the next young actress to watch for. Kisses Delavin shines on her natural way of acting. She is unintentionally funny on this film. The chemistry of the other cast Kiray, Lou Veloso & Kelvin Miranda with Aiai is also commendable for this film. It feels like naturally delivered and effortless. So if you want to watch a film and leave the cinemas smiling, you may consider to watch D’Ninang.

My Verdict: 3/5
