Movie Review: Sa Ngalan ng Ama Ina at mga Anak

Set in the turbulent decade of the 70s, the film is based on the true-life story of Ongkoy (Robin Padilla) who was once the leader of the infamous anti-vigilante group “Kuratong Baleleng.” Ongkoy is regarded by many as the “Robinhood” of Ozamis Mindanao and his passionate and powerful views on family and patriotism remains to be the stuff of legend in Filipino culture even to this very day. Ongkoy, remains controversial even after his death because of the spreading news that his body has not decomposed at all when it was exhumed after 20 years of lying in state some feet below the ground. This is part of the mystery and myth surrounding the controversial life of Ongkoy.

It’s nice to see the Padilla clan in one film with a worth watching story. I’ve learned a lot about the story of Kuratong Baleleng in Mindanao their history and their visions in life. The action treatment of the film is also a bit new in which they utilize the modern technology that we have. The DOP is good., camera movement and angle is also done well in the film. Story wise it is well understood and fast pacing. Though there’s the traditional element of pinoy action flick in the film it is passable for me. This is good debut film for Direk John Villarin. There is also a lot of surprises in the film and cameo as well. I am just shocked with one of the scenes of Robin and Mariel with the **** exposure. You will notice that this Padilla men have their own nuances that they own as Padilla and have the charm towards the audience. Mariel Padilla is also pretty in this film and seems that the camera lover her here. Bela and Kylie Padilla are the actresses to watch for from Padilla clan and Daniel Padilla as we all know is the superstar of the family. So if you want to know more about the story of Kuratong Baleleng , want to see the Padilla clan in one film which is a rare opportunity , you are fan of Daniel Padilla, watch this decently made true to life pinoy action flick..

My Verdict: 3/5
