Trisha, a Filipino transgender woman, suddenly dies while being crowned
in a beauty pageant. Her last wish was to be presented as a different
celebrity on each night of her wake, but her conservative father wants
to bury her as a man. Trisha's friends are left with no choice but to
steal her body and hold the wake in a secret location. And as Trisha is
transformed to look like different celebrities, they also look back at
the colorful and extraordinary life that she has led - being a son, a
sister, a mother, a friend, a lover, a wife, and ultimately, a queen.
Die Beautiful is a moving tale about transgender that works effectively due to its compelling narrative and solid performances by Paolo Ballesteros and Christian Bables. Despite of its non linear story telling, the film has manage to deliver a solid gay film which I consider the best that I watched in recent years. Kudos to the editing and screenplay for giving us this smooth treatment in this film.
Watching this film is like an emotional roller coaster you laugh at one scene then cry on the other. The humor on the film is cleverly written which is based on the situation and not on the actors antics which we rarely seen on our local film. Die Beautiful is a touching and heartwarming celebration of life of not only of openly gay individual but also a straight person. Its a bitter sweet memory for me that I can relate on and will linger to me for a long time. One of the best film of 2016.
My Verdict: 5/5
