Movie Review: Mujigae

After losing her Filipino mother in South Korea, 5-year-old Mujigae—half-Korean, half-Filipino—finds herself in the care of her estranged Aunt Sunny in the Philippines. As they navigate this unexpected journey, they confront grief, unravel cultural complexities, and discover the transformative power of family and community. Through their poignant exploration, Mujigae learns to embrace change through courage and resilience, finding her place in the world with a strong chance at life.

Mujigae is truly a heartwarming film. It's been a while that we have this kind of Filipino family drama film in which we can relate to every character.
It explores the profound themes of motherhood and the bonds that connect us, highlighted by the compelling chemistry between Alexa Ilacad and Ryrie Sophia.
This is Alexa's best performance to date in a film, showcasing his maturity as an actress. Even the supporting cast are standout in the film from Donna Cariaga, Kate Alejandrino and Anna Luna that adds color to the film. A star is born to this cute child actress Ryrie Sophia that will definitely touch your heart with her captivating performance. I appreciate the setting of the film that is very Pinoy with the beautiful mountain as the backdrop and the neighborhood that is very provincial, it complements with the color and the treatment of the film that has Kdrama feels and vibes. Mujigae draws the audience into an emotional journey, making it impossible not to feel invested in the story throughout the film. It’s a heartwarming experience that resonates with anyone who has experienced the complexities of love and family.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
