This summer, GMA Pictures and Mentorque Productions are set to deliver a terrifying new cinematic experience with Huwag Kang Titingin, a Gen Z horror film that blends viral internet culture with deep-rooted Filipino folklore. Opening in theaters nationwide on April 15, the film promises a chilling mix of jump scares, mystery, and emotional depth.
From the producers behind box-office hits like KMJS: Gabi ng Lagim The Movie and Mallari, the film taps into the modern obsession with viral challenges—exploring what happens when curiosity goes too far.
At the heart of the story is an old ritual meant to communicate with the dead, which resurfaces as a viral online challenge. But instead of harmless thrills, participants unknowingly awaken a sinister entity known as the “Umaaaligid”—a malevolent force that feeds on souls, stalks its victims, and drags them slowly into a waking nightmare.
Set in the eerie town of San Antonio, the film creates a haunting atmosphere filled with candlelit rituals, shadowy rest houses, and dark corners where every mirror or flicker of light could become a portal to something terrifying.
Leading the cast is Sofia Pablo as Selene, a quiet yet strong-willed sister burdened by guilt and determined to protect her younger brother. Alongside her is Allen Ansay as Badong, a reserved kasambahay harboring unsettling secrets.
They are joined by a dynamic young ensemble including Marco Masa, Charlie Fleming, Michael Sager, Kira Balinger, Josh Ford, Sean Lucas, and Anthony Constantino, with special participation from Shuvee Etrata.
Helmed by director Frasco Mortiz and creative producer-screenwriter Ays De Guzman—the team behind Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay—the film aims to deliver a horror experience that feels both frighteningly modern and deeply rooted in Filipino tradition.
Cast Camaraderie and Real-Life “Huwag Kang Titingin” Moments
During the press event, the full cast of Huwag Kang Titingin was present—and what stood out the most was how game and genuine they were in answering questions.
When asked about their own “huwag kang titingin” moments in real life, the answers were surprisingly relatable and personal.
Josh Ford shared a light yet familiar experience—choosing not to look at a test paper that was accidentally given ahead of exam day. Sean Lucas echoed this, saying he avoids glancing at a seatmate’s paper during exams to make sure he doesn’t cheat.
Anthony Constantino gave a more reflective answer, choosing to interpret the phrase in a deeper sense. For him, it’s about not looking back at the country he once lived in, as he fully commits to building his showbiz career here in the Philippines—embracing the mindset of moving forward with no turning back.
Meanwhile, Shuvee Etrata shared a heartfelt perspective. For her, “huwag kang titingin” doesn’t mean forgetting where you came from. She spoke about her deep gratitude toward Cebu, even sharing that she recently dreamed about her grandmother—something that inspired her to plan a visit back home during her free time.
Off-camera, the bond among the cast is just as compelling as the story they’re telling. Despite working on a horror film, Sofia Pablo and Allen Ansay’s closeness is undeniable, showing a strong friendship that translates naturally on screen.
Anthony also had nothing but good words for Marco Masa, sharing how the younger actor helped motivate him throughout filming. Even though Marco is younger, Anthony admitted he learned a lot from him—especially when it comes to dedication and approach to acting.
With its mix of supernatural terror, Gen Z themes, and emotional storytelling, Huwag Kang Titingin is shaping up to be more than just a horror film—it’s a reflection of curiosity, consequences, and the things we choose to face… or avoid.
Catch it in theaters starting April 15.
