JM De Guzman & Rhian Ramos Excite Fans With Their Fresh Pairing In Kung Paano Siya Nawala

Can the heart remember what the mind forgets?

This is the question JM De Guzman and Rhian Ramos try to answer in "Kung Paano Siya Nawala," the new romantic movie brought to you by TBA Studios, the producers of the box-office and critically-acclaimed hits "I'm Drunk, I Love You" and "Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral."

"Kung Paano Siya Nawala" tells the story of Lio (JM De Guzman), a quiet and withdrawn young man who finds it difficult to connect with other people due to his affliction:  face blindness, a cognitive disorder characterized by an inability to recognize faces.

But the inhibited Lio finds himself opening up to the world when he falls in love with Shana (Rhian Ramos), a beautiful free spirit who has secrets of her own.

Lio's unique condition—and the baggage that comes along with it—brings a complicated twist to their love story.

"Kung Paano Siya Nawala" is helmed and co-written by Joel Ruiz. This is the feature-length commercial debut of this relatively young filmmaker, who’s well known in the advertising community for directing commercials for major brands, including one of the viral #KwentongJollibee mini-films.  Joel describes “Kung Paano Siya Nawala” as a contemporary urban love story about letting go and holding on.   Aside from exploring the highs and lows of a modern relationship, “Kung Paano Siya Nawala” is also a hopeful tale of how people can still emerge victorious despite the many battles that love entails.

"Kung Paano Siya Nawala" serves as JM's movie comeback after taking a hiatus from showbiz in 2015.  He was last seen on the big screen in the 2015 drama "Tandem" and the 2014 romantic-comedy "That Thing Called Tadhana."

"First time ko nabasa yung script, gusto ko na talaga siyang gawin. Ang ganda ng story and character. Challenging siya for me. Gusto ko rin makatrabaho si Rhian and si direk Joel, and of course ang TBA Studios. So lahat nag-match," JM shares. "Maraming parts sa buhay ni Lio na nata-tap ko sa personal kong buhay. Napagdaanan ko rin. Naka-connect ako sa kanya."

“Kung Paano Siya Nawala” also features, for the first time, the fresh pairing of ABS-CBN actor JM and GMA-7 actress Rhian. Their tandem was first revealed on Facebook last July, and fans immediately lauded their unexpected yet appealing and exciting team-up.

Rhian says: "It was a pleasure working with JM.  I really felt his passion and dedication for his work.  And we really developed a good relationship on set.  Whenever I shoot a big scene, I freak out because I want to do a good job.  But with JM, I just have to look at him and I already know what I will do.  He gives me that confidence.  We have become such good friends and it helped us both on the movie set and beyond.”

JM describes Rhian as a "very generous and very giving actress."  He adds:  "Madali siyang ka-work. Sobrang passionate. Pagdating sa set, hindi ka mag-aalala kasi alam mo na kapag may mistake ka merong sasalo sa iyo.  Ganun yung relationship namin sa work."

"Kung Paano Siya Nawala" not only sees JM and Rhian as lead actors; they also served as co-executive producers for the movie, a testament of how much they believe in the quality and the message of the movie.

"Ever since I read the script, I've long been dreaming of making this movie.  It was a dream come true.  Everything happened in the best way possible.  We really became a team and a family, and pulled towards the same goal in the end," Rhian says.

Making the movie is also a dream come true for JM.  "Iba yung feeling working as a co-executive producer. Hindi ko siya in-expect," he says. "Naging parte siya ng pangarap ko noon. Ngayon yung naging perfect time for it."

Apart from the unique love story, fans of the genre should also watch for the film’s music.  The movie’s main soundtrack features the song “Anino,” an unreleased and newly re-arranged version of a song by the popular indie band Up Dharma Down (UDD).  Armi Millare of UDD also serves as the movie’s musical scorer . Like “I’m Drunk, I Love You,' music fans can also expect great music from “Kung Paano Siya Nawala” as it features songs from some of the best indie and local music artists.

"Kung Paano Siya Nawala" also stars Agot Isidro, Barbara Ruaro, and Ricky Davao.

Produced by TBA Studios, "Kung Paano Siya Nawala" opens in cinemas nationwide on Wednesday, November 14.
