Movie Review: Ari: My Life With A King

Ari My Life with a King is the coming-of-age story of a Filipino boy rediscovering his native roots. Twenty-five years after Mount Pinatoba erupted, the Kimpanpangans still struggle to keep their language and culture alive. Spearheading the movement is a poet circle led by an elected chief — known locally as the King of Poets.

Brilliantly performed and smartly unconventional, Ari: My Life With A King pays fitting tribute to the king of local poet in Pampanga while offering profoundly poignant observations on the existing condition on the craft that he truly loves. The film is a sentimental, formulaic tale of an inspiring poet anchored with effective performances by the new comer Ronwaldo Martin and Francisco Guinto. This moving and inspiring drama is an effective and a heartwarming tale of one man's commitment to his passion.

My Verdict: 3/5
