Director’s
Showcase
Hari
ng Tondo – I like the trailer and feel of the film. This is the comeback film
of the award winning director Carlos Sigion Reyna.
Hustisya – Ofcourse the first cinemalaya film of the one and the only superstar Nora Aunor. Plus factor is this is another collaboration of both critically acclaimed Ricky Lee and Joel Lamangan as writer and director. I also like the trailer of the film.
New
Breed
#Y
– from the filmmaker of 2012 Cinemalaya Entry: The Animals, Gino Santos. I like
the plot of the film, youth gone wild here. I also like the glow in the dark
effects of the film.
Dagitab
– from the production and writer of the last year’s Best Picture in New Breed
Gian Carlo Abrahan. I am also curious with the plot of the film especially the
ghost element.
Mariquina – From the production of last year’s New Breed Best Picture. The writer of the film is the best Director and also got the Best Picture from the last year’s Director Showcase, Jerold Tarog. From the filmmaker of 2009 Cinemalaya Entry: Sanglaan. Milo Sogueco. I am looking forward for the collaboration of the two.
Bwaya – From the filmmaker of the 2008 Cinemalaya Best Picture, Francis Paxion. I am interested with the plot and from its teaser as well making me more curious to watch this film.
Ronda
– From the filmmaker of the 2006 Cinemalaya Entry: Huling Araw ng Linggo and the
writer of the film is the award winning director Adolfo Alix. Looking forward for
their collaborations.
Sa
labanan ng pagka best actress at best actor it depends sa bigat ng role, sa
husay ng aktor at aktres at sa taste ng mga judges kung sino ang makakasungkit
nito. For Director’s Showcase Best Actress, it would be between Nora Aunor (Hustisya) and
Aiko Melendez (Asintado) but sure win is Ms. Nora Aunor. For Best Actor it’s a toss
between Robert Arevalo (Hari ng Tondo), Arnold Reyes (Kasal), Oliver Aquino (Kasal) and Dennis Trillo (The Janitor).
For New Breed Best Actress I think it’s between Angeli
Bayani (Bwaya), Nova Villa (1st Ko Si 3rd), Eula Valdez (Dagitab), Mara Lopez (K'na The Dreamweaver), Mylene Dizon (Mariquina), and Aiai Delas Alas (Ronda).
So it’s going to be a tough competition for this category. Best Actor could be
between Elmo Magalona (#Y), Freddie Webb (1st Ko Si 3rd) , Buboy Villar (Children's Show), Miggs Cuaderno (Children's Show), Nonie
Buencamino (Dagitab), Martin Del Rosario (Dagitab), Ricky Davao (Separados), Victor Neri (Separados), Jason Abalos (Separados) and the
children of Sundalong Kanin.
For supporting performers Director’s Showcase could be Gabby
Eigenman (Asintado), Migs Cuaderno (Asintado), Rocco Nacino (Hustisya), Sunshine Dizon (Hustisya), Rosanna Roces (Hustisya), Rafa
Sigion-Reyna (Hari ng Tondo), Chris Villonco (Hari ng Tondo), Richard Gomez (The Janitor), Raymond Bagatsing (The Janitor), Alex Medina (The Janitor) and
for New Breed could be Sophie Alberts (#Y), Kit Thompson (#Y), RS Francisco (Bwaya), Karl Medina (Bwaya),
Allen Dizon (Children's Show), Sandino Martin (Dagitab), RK Bagatsing (K'na The Dreamweaver), Alex Medina (K'na The Dreamweaver), Ritz Azul (Separados), Barbie
Forteza (Mariquina), and Ricky Davao (Mariquina).
For the Best Director Award Director’s Showcase it could be Carlos
Sigion-Reyna (Hari ng Tondo), Michael Tuviera (The Janitor) and Joel Lamangan (Hustisya). For New Breed it could be Francis
Paxion (Bwaya), Milo Sogueco (Mariquina, and Gian Carlo Abrahan (Dagitab).
For Best Picture Director’s Showcase it could be Hari ng
Tondo and Hustisya. For New Breed it could be Bwaya, Dagitab and Mariquina.
Cinemalaya 2014 will
be held on August 1-10 2014 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Ayala
Cinemas: Trinoma, Greenbelt 3, Alabang Town Center and Fairview Terraces.
