Movie Review: She's Dating The Gangster

The film tells the heart-wrenching tale of 17-year-old Athena Dizon and campus bad boy Kenji de los Reyes, two teenagers who begin a pretend relationship that ultimately transforms into something deeper.

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla has already master their chemistry as onscreen partners. It is evidently seen on the two timeline of the film wether it is past or present. Daniel perfectly portrays his character as gangster in the film same with Kathryn as a no boyfriend since birth nerdy girl. The film has done major modification from the adaptation of the book especially in the ending and timeline of the film. Although the kilig factor, important incidents and original core of story was I think perfectly capture as expected by the film maker which I know the specialty of Direk Cathy which is to bring into life a good love story. So the changes that was made were done for cinematic purposes especially to the present part of Kenjie, I love the father son story. So screenplay wise naalagaan naman yung film para ma balance yung story sa book at iyong mga nadagdag na elements sa film.

For the individual performance infairness to Daniel, he can act especially in drama scenes and the dance scene is so sexy and pa cute you know that Daniel is not comfortable in dancing but effortless for him to be cute and sexy. For Kathryn as expected as an experienced child actress to a teen star, she can deliver in any kind of scenes wether it is comedy or drama. I have 2 favorite scene for her in the film first is the cheering in the basketball game and second is her breakdown scene with her family setting up the oxygen. The film also got a good supporting casts special mention to Pamu and Igi Boy.

Lakas din makathrowback ng pelikulang ito. From the look, places and texture of the film na mid 90's. You will remember those days na nung wala pang internet sa bilyaran at arcade tumatambay ang mga estudyante. Obviously the Kathniel loveteam has a strong fan base same with the book that has strong followers so despite the typhoon on its first day surely this will be a box office hit and could be the highest grossing film of Kathniel.

Overall for the film, madaming beses akong naiyak at kinilig. Daniel Padilla  proves in this film that he is really a heartthrob. The fact that I am affected while watching this it means that the film is effective in bringing into a big screen a good love story from the book She's Dating The Gangster.

My Verdict:   4/5
