"Latay" dwells into the brewing turmoil of an unusual rural couple, where the husband is the awkwardly "suffering" type, but vulnerable to temptation and passively lacks ambition. While the wife appears to be antagonistic,expressing discontent with the trials in their dysfunctional relarionship via her violent streak, which unfortunately projects to her husband. It's about a couple that has all yhe deals of making love work ideally, but social forces coupled with their struggling egos,made them drift apart.
The sensitive issue of battered husbands is seldomly tackled in films.
But in the movie Latay, written and directed by award winning Ralston Jover, the complicated marital status of Lori (Lovi Poe) and Lando (Allen Dizon) is highlighted by the string of physical, emotional, verbal abuse and arguments of the wife towards her husband on issues with potential cheating and economic poverty.
The film has already garnered more than 20 local and international awards including best acting citations for Allen and Lovi who gave it their all for the difficult roles. The battered scenes were well executed they actually acquired mild bruises in the process.
Snooky Serna's few scenes were remarkable and stood out well that directly links her over bearing attitude and behavior to that of mother and daughter.
Do take note that no stunt stand ins were used for the anticipated final scene. It was all Lovi and Allen.
