It's going to be a screamfest treat for all the pinoy horror movie lovers out there, as three distinct local horror films will hit the theaters near you next month. First is the initial local offering of FOX, Maledicto, which set to show in cinemas nationwide this coming May 1.
Maledicto stars Tom Rodriguez as Father Xavi, a former psychologist who becomes a skeptical exorcist following the tragic death of his sister, Mara (played by Inah de Belen). He meets Sister Barbie (played by Jasmine Curtis-Smith), a young nun who has the gift of charisma. Together, they face the case of Agnes (Miles Ocampo), a seemingly perfect teenager who starts manifesting demonic behavior that rocks the foundations of the church.
Other cast members include Eric Quizon, Martin Escudero, Franco Laurel, Nonie Buencamino, Liza Lorena, and Menggie Cobarrubias.
Megastar Sharon Cuneta return to the horror genre via the film, Kuwaresma, helmed by the direction of Erik Matti, showing in cinemas May 15 nationwide. Joining Sharon in this film is the award-winning actor John Arcilla.
Sharon and John play the roles of Rebecca and Arturo whose daughter Manuela just died. Their son Luis comes home to pay his last respects but his sister’s ghost haunts him when he begins asking his parents why she died. Both tight lipped, Luis is forced to consult with a psychic to uncover the mystery of Manuela’s death and comes face-to face with the family home’s dark history.

Finally, a youth oriented horror-suspense film, Banal, starring the BiGuel love team, Bianca Umali and Miguel Tan Felix together with teen star Andrea Brillantes, is coming to cinemas nationwide on May 29.
