A Night of OPM Pride: SB19 and Cup of Joe Steal the Spotlight at FMA 2025

The first-ever Filipino Music Awards (FMA 2025) was a night to remember as SB19 and Cup of Joe emerged as the biggest winners, marking a historic celebration of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

Held on October 21, 2025, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, the grand event brought together more than 500 artists, producers, and music legends, uniting the industry under one roof to honor Filipino talent and creativity.

The ceremony, hosted by Joey Mead King, Michael Sager, and Elijah Canlas, introduced a fresh, inclusive format that highlighted OPM’s diversity and global influence. The awards were divided into four main sections: Genre Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Legacy Awards, and Grand Awards.

A panel of respected OPM icons and industry veterans judged the Genre Awards, spotlighting artists who pushed creative boundaries this year.

Pop Song of the Year: “Dungka!” – SB19
Alternative Song of the Year: “I.N.A.S.” – ZILD
Rock Song of the Year: “Aura” – IV of Spades
Folk Song of the Year: “Sampung mga Daliri” – Dwta and Justin
Hip-hop Song of the Year: “Gubat na Siyudad” – Morobeats
R&B Song of the Year: “Marilag” – Dionela

The People’s Choice Awards, decided entirely by public votes, gave fans the opportunity to celebrate their favorite artists. SB19 once again dominated the category, taking home People’s Choice Artist, People’s Choice Song for “Dungka!”, and People’s Choice International Artist, which was awarded to J-Hope.

One of the most emotional moments of the night came during the Legacy Awards segment. The audience gave a standing ovation to Pilita Corrales, recipient of the Tribute Award, and to the Ang Misyon Orchestra of the Filipino Youth, named Music Foundation of the Year. The night culminated in honoring the timeless Jose Mari Chan, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring contributions to Philippine music.

As the night drew to a close, SB19 stood tall as the biggest winner of FMA 2025, bagging Artist of the Year, Concert of the Year, and Tour of the Year for “Simula at Wakas.”

Meanwhile, rising band Cup of Joe scored two major wins: Album of the Year for “Silakbo” and Song of the Year for “Multo,” cementing their reputation as one of today’s most promising OPM acts.

Sony Music Philippines was named Music Company of the Year, recognized for its ongoing efforts to elevate Filipino artists onto the global stage.

The Filipino Music Awards 2025 didn’t just hand out trophies—it showcased the heart, soul, and evolution of OPM. From honoring the greats to spotlighting new voices, it was a powerful reminder that Filipino music is not just thriving—it’s here to stay
