MTRCB releases film ratings for 9 movies ahead of Holy Week

As Holy Week draws near, ideal for family viewing is the biblical film, “The Chosen: Last Supper,” rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). It depicts Jesus Christ's public life through the eyes of His disciples.

Under PG, viewers 13 and below must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult.

Other movies with a PG rating are:

- The American action-thriller, “The Amateur,” based on Robert Littell 1981 book of the same title, is about a CIA cryptographer trying to find the killers of his wife;

- The American drama, “Rule Breakers,” tells the tale of a visionary woman who, in a country where teaching girls is viewed as disobedience, dares to teach young minds to dream; and,

- “Bloat,” a co-production among Russia, France and Japan, about a family vacationing in Japan when their younger son almost drowns and becomes possessed by an ancient evil.

“These films would be better appreciated by young audiences if viewed with adult guidance and supervision,” said MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio.

For viewers seeking a more mature theme, the Filipino romantic-comedy, “Un-Ex You,” which stars Kim Molina and Gerald Napoles, was rated R-13 for its language and double-meaning jokes.

Also rated R-13 are the American thriller, “Drop,” about a widowed mother who was terrorized by a series of anonymous text  messages, and the Thai romantic-comedy, “The Red Envelope,” which tells the story of a supernatural marriage between a human and a ghost.

The action-thriller, “A Working Man,” based on the 2014 book, Levon’s Trade, and the horror, “The Demon Disorder,” about a family secret that leads to the revelation of something more bizarre and unfathomable, are rated R-16, or appropriate for audiences aged 16 and up.

The Board reminds parents and supervising adults to use the MTRCB ratings as a guide when selecting age-appropriate films that are suitable for their family, especially the kids.
