Shot entirely in Seoul and Yangpyeong Conuty, Sunshine Family is a comedy-drama that tells story of Don and Sonya Mapalad (Nonie and Sharmaine Buencamino), and their children Shine )(Sue Ramirez) and Max (Marco Masa). A partly dysfunctional family living in Korea for the past five years, the family’s plan of going back home to the Philippines get challenged after Don is involved in a hit and run accident.
It’s long been said that in times of trouble, it is to your family that you run back to. In this country of strangers, can the Mapalads learn to rely on each other and overcome this one final hurdle as a family?
Sunshine Family is a wazak family movie with a heart! It is definitely a laugh trip that we do not usually see in a family film. It is the updated version of Tanging Yaman with a twist. The film effectively uses the black humor to show the perfect combination of Korea and Philippines culture in one film. Fast pace, charming, and feels like watching a Korean drama starring competent Filipino actors that we have. There is also Korean characters in this film that you will definitely love from grandpa, to gossiper neighbor up to Kpop idol Shinwoo of Blanc 7, cute love interest of Sue in this film. Nonie Buencamino and Sharmaine Buencamino are adorable great actors with great chemistry in this film. Sue Ramirez is so pretty that delivers a natural wit and sensibility to her character. Marco Masa has its shining moments that perfectly capture on screen. So if you just want laugh and touch your heart at the same time watch Sunshine Family that is definitely best watch with your loved ones.
My Verdict: 4/5
