After the sudden death of her best friend Trisha (Paolo Ballesteros), Barbs (Martin del Rosario) tries to go on with her life as a mortuary beautician at Happy Ending Funeral Homes. When another friend dies, Barbs tries to start a new life as a straight man named Bobby. And this triggers a chain of events that leads her to the arms of Trisha’s ex-boyfriend Michael Angelo (Akihiro Blanco), her own ex-boyfriend Greg (Kiko Matos) and a woman that barges into her life claiming that she is pregnant and Barbs is the father!
Born Beautiful is a flamboyant, brave, hilarious film that address tough issues on gender fluidity and with intriguing and diverse topics presented in a comical way. Martin del Rosario delivers a confident performance that carries the whole film. He will make you laugh if needed, make you cry on his heartfelt scenes and make you think on his complex character he gave to this film. Paolo Ballesteros had few scenes but totally a scene stealer. Chai Fonacier is another stand out in the film with her meaty role that she really owns. Akihiro Blanco and Kiko Matos are eye candy that adds spice to the colorful life of Barbs. Born Beautiful has an ensemble cast that works well to deliver an entertaining comedy film with a statement. So if you want to be entertained in a way that will make you appreciate the LGBT community more, watch Born Beautiful as it is an eye-opener that's worth your time.
My Verdict: 3.5/5
