Movie Review: Ilawod

Ilawod is the story of a family's breakdown in the midst of a demonic attack. Dennis, a reporter, accidentally invites the ilawod-the elemental of water that flows downstream-into his home, where it latches onto his young son, Ben. What follows is a battle for not just the family's lives, but their souls as well.

Ilawod is a decent psychological local horror film that has all the elements of scare factor that pinoy audience would like to watch. Simple plot but done very well. The story is easy to catch to. Good performance for all of the cast from Iza Calzado, Ian Veneracion, Xyriel Manabat, Harvey Bautista, Therese Malvar up to Epy Quizon. As always Therese Malvar stands out as an effective villain for this film. We can say for this film that director Dan Villegas can
not only do a romcom genre but also can do a horror flick effectively. No jump scares, Ilawod relies on it's own plot and dynamics to keep the story line going.

My Verdict: 3.5/5
